Nick Mothershaw, Experian

Nick Mothershaw

Nick is responsible for the strategic direction of Experian’s fraud solutions for the UK and International market. This includes the Detect and Hunter products, which have now been integrated into a cooperative single solution, Authentication services and a host of new initiatives which we will be bringing to market over the coming year.

Key to the role is keeping Experian’s Fraud solutions at the forefront of fraud management by bringing to bear additional data sources, detection techniques and referral management tools. It’s also about expanding the scope of the solution to resolve more of our client’s fraud challenges internationally and beyond the point of application, which Nick will explore today as part of his presentation.

Nick originally joined Experian to manage the Hunter II programme within MCL Software Ltd. Previously Nick was a director of a company providing global solutions within the broader Criminal Justice arena. He is married with three children and is into amateur dramatics in his spare time: currently touring in an irreverent play called “Not Ibsens Peer Gynt”.

The changing face of fraud solutions
As the face of the fraudster changes, your fraud defenses must change to reflect this.

At application stage, more comprehensive data and rules are needed. Better prioritisation of referrals is required. The use of scarce resources must be maximized to focus on the most likely fraud cases, using consolidated referral management tools to enable decisions to be made as swiftly as possible.

A new focus is required post application: spotting and flagging up account takeovers and sleeper fraud within your open book before losses occur.

The industry needs to work together in the most effective manner, sharing more data to ensure swift identification of fraudsters: both on inconsistencies in information provided, and on post application events such as first party disputes.

Finally, you must mitigate against the threat from within: Staff Fraud.

Nick’s presentation will show how Experian’s fraud solutions are changing and expanding to help you achieve these goals.
