Fraud through the eyes of the fraudster
In this presentation Professor Martin Gill will report on his work with fraudsters in prison. He interviewed 25 people convicted of fraud, including those who had altered passports, those who had conducted scams, identity theft and especially those who had stolen large amounts from their employers. The fraudsters discussed their motives, the techniques they used, the risk factors they had to manage to avoid capture, their successes and failures and their experiences on getting caught and going to prison. His study provides some important insights into the criminal mind, and suggests that we may need to think differently if we are to stop them in their tracks.
