Juan Andres Yanes, Santander Group
Mr. Yanes has been with Grupo Santander since 1991. He was involved in Investment Banking, Corporate Finance and Financial Markets until January 1999. In 1999 he was appointed as Global Head of Market Risk in charge of the then newly merged group. In November 2003 he was appointed to his current position as Deputy CRO for the Grupo Santander Risk Division.

Mr. Yanes holds a BA from the Universidad Simón Bolívar (Venezuela) -1985. In 1987, Mr. Yanes pursued graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds a dual Master’s degree from the MIT –1990. He focused in combining Business and Finance, Public Policy and Planning.

Mr. Yanes has been leading the risk integration process occurred in the last two years aiming to consolidate a strong Enterprise Wide Risk Management function.

Juan Andres Yanes, Deputy Managing Director, Risk Management will illustrate the strategy of Group Santander for the export of its strategic consumer banking model into the international arena, with specific reference to their experience in the UK market. The group has a declared mission to be market leader in its chosen markets through a strategy based on customer focus. The strategy adopted to achieve this and the achievements to date will be discussed.
